Minister of Youth and Sports Congratulates Egyptian ESports Federation on Winning African Championship

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, congratulated the Egyptian E-Sports Federation and the Egyptian e-sports team on their historic achievement of winning the first African championship in this field.

The victory came during the tournament held in Casablanca, Morocco, where the Egyptian team defeated Tunisia in the final match, winning the first-ever African title for Egypt and qualifying for the 2024 ESports World Cup.

The winning team consists of players Asmaa Raafat, Nourhan Shaker, Engy Sami, Hadeel Abdel Nasser, Rowan Abdel Azim, and Alaa Ayman. The team achieved this great accomplishment through the “Mobile Legends” game in the girls’ category.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, expressed his great happiness with this great achievement by the Egyptian e-sports team. He said, “I congratulate the players on this outstanding performance and the high fighting spirit they demonstrated throughout the tournament. Winning Egypt’s first African ESports Championship is a great achievement that reflects the significant development we are witnessing in this field and motivates us to invest more in supporting young talent in Egypt.”

Sobhi added, “This victory not only represents pride for Egypt, but also opens the door to a promising future for ESports as a sports sector where we can achieve many accomplishments on the global level.”

It’s worth noting that this victory qualifies the Egyptian national team to represent Africa in the 2024 World Cup, organized by the International Esports Federation (IESF), which will be held in November.
